From May to August this year, Original Equipment Manufacturers have introduced numerous exciting new vehicle models to the market.

Below is a quick overview of new introductions and developments over the past few months.
Hyundai launches range of small cargo carriers
Hyundai are looking to answer the needs of business owners looking for a small, safe, economical transport vehicle with a range of Cargo models. Converted Grand i10 and Atos Cargo hatchback models are two of the extremely versatile vehicles in Hyundai’s local range, offering a secure 1.2 cubic metre loading space. Hooks to secure goods or a cargo net and a strong wire mesh barrier between the cargo area and the front seats are simple yet effective modifications that transform these hatchbacks into working class heroes. Rear side windows are also covered with a strong wire mesh to keep goods safe. Three derivatives are on offer in this configuration: the Atos 1.1 Motion Cargo manual, Atos 1.1 Fluid Cargo manual and Grand i10 Motion Cargo manual.
Hyundai expands Kona range to include N Line
A thoroughly refreshed Hyundai Kona that features a variety of upgrades, dynamic new styling and models featuring sporty N Line trim is now available. The fresh new design offers a dynamic new appearance, while an enhanced powertrain line-up provides both sporty and eco-friendly options. The new Kona will be available in South Africa in three variants with two specification and trim levels: the Kona 2.0 Nu Executive with an Intelligent Variable Transmission, the Kona 1.6 T-GDi Executive with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and the flagship Kona 1.6 T-GDi N Line, also equipped with a dual clutch gearbox.
Hyundai i20 third generation launched
The all-new Hyundai i20 has arrived sporting a new engine, roomier cabin and drastically refreshed exterior styling. The third generation i20 comes in Motion and Fluid specification levels.
Kia Sonet range expanded
Only months after its initial introduction, the Kia Sonet has secured its position as one of South Africa’s most popular compact SUVs. Now the range consisting of mid-specification Sonet EX models will be complemented by two entry-level Sonet LX derivatives that are all about value for money. Like the EX models, the LX derivatives are fitted with Kia’s advanced, punchy and frugal 1.5 MPI naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 85kW at 6 300rpm and 144Nm at 4 500rpm. Customers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT transmission.
Kia presents all-new Sportage
The new Kia Sportage has been unveiled following a design process that saw the urban SUV carefully crafted from the ground up to once again feature innovations that elevate the brand to the next level. The new Sportage has been designed as a showcase for Kia’s new design language, dubbed ‘Opposites United’.
Upfront the Sportage features a precise and intricate design that includes a detail-orientated black grille graphic stretching across the width of the face. The grille links Kia’s tiger nose grille to the distinctive futuristic styled boomerang-shaped LEDs daytime running lamps, which create boundary lines for the Matrix LED headlamps. When viewed from the side, crisp lines ripple along a refined body and muscular surfaces give this SUV a dynamic and assertive road presence. This next generation Sportage is expected to go on sale mid-2022.
Kia launches budget-beating Pegas
Kia have launched a new model badged the Pegas, which they believe is perfect for families and first-time buyers looking for a vehicle that offers a combination of value, technology and space. The typical bold Kia face with the incorporation of the tiger nose grille gives the Pegas a sporty appearance. Smart chrome highlights and 14-inch alloy wheels on higher specification models give the Pegas a premium look and feel despite its value proposition. The rear features a neatly integrated boot that belies its large volume.
Mitsubishi launches second-generation Eclipse Cross
Mitsubishi is hoping to disrupt the highly competitive compact SUV segment with the introduction of the second-generation Eclipse Cross. The Eclipse Cross offers a sleek, sporty design and SUV capabilities, while being a compelling value proposition for customers. Key features include a striking new exterior design, an extensive list of comfort features, improved practicality, impressive safety credentials, enhanced technology and connectivity and greater value for money.
Seven-seater Mitsubishi Xpander
Mitsubishi have expanded their product offering with the launch of the seven-seater Xpander, which combines the versatility of MPV with the sporty looks of an SUV. Mitsubishi hope that thanks to this model they will be able to strengthen their position in both the MPV and compact SUV segments of the market. Core to the modern, yet practical, styling is Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield Design, which is said to express a feeling of performance and protection. The new face with its black central area builds on this approach with a touch of sportiness and performance.
Audi S7 Sportback on sale
The Audi S7 Sportback is characterised by its striking, distinctive design. Embracing the new Audi design language further emphasises its sporty look, along with dynamically styled front trim, wide sills and rear diffuser with four tailpipe trims. Distinctive S trim elements in dark chrome and aluminium on the radiator grille lamellas, the front blade, the side air inlet, the exterior mirrors and the rear diffuser proclaim the sporty characteristics at a glance.
Audi on the brink of electric vehicle rollout
Audi have made a global commitment by announcing that by 2026, every new Audi model launched will be fully electric. Audi South Africa have announced that they are progressing with the rollout of electric models in the first quarter of 2022. This rollout will include the launch of six new e-tron models. These six models include the e-tron 50 and 55 in the SUV category, the e-tron Sportback 55 and e-tron Sportback S in the CUV category and the e- tron GT and RS e-tron GT in the high performance category.
Audi A3 Sportback and sedan on sale
Audi have introduced the fourth-generation A3 Sportback and second-generation A3 sedan. These new models offer a sportier look and efficient drive, while also offering a digital operating concept and numerous other innovations. The A3 range includes the five-door Sportback, four-door Sedan and the S3 and it went on sale in South Africa this month.
BMW’s sporty touring motorcycle updated
Since its inception, the BMW RT models have been known for their dynamic touring capability because they combine comfort on long journeys with dynamic riding pleasure on country roads. BMW recently made some extensive changes and innovations to the latest R 1250 RT, ensuring even greater riding pleasure and touring enjoyment at the highest level.
BMW takes wraps off M4 convertible
BMW have expanded the new M4 line-up with the addition of a convertible model. Signature M design features combine with a new panel bow soft-top roof to offer a high-performance sports car with the unique allure of driving with the roof open.
Ford Ranger Stormtrak confirmed for local introduction
Following in the footsteps of the successful Ford Ranger Thunder, Ford South Africa will be introducing a special edition Ranger Stormtrak later this year. The Ranger Stormtrak will follow a similar recipe as the limited edition Thunder with increased styling, sophistication and exclusivity, thanks to luxury appointments.
Ford Mustang Mach 1 on its way to SA
The local Mustang range will soon be bolstered by a limited edition model in the form of the Mach 1 Fastback coupé. This top of the range 5.0-litre V8 model will be limited to 90 units for the South African market. As with the 1969 original, the Mach 1 bridges the gap between the standard Mustang GT and Shelby models with a V8 under the bonnet, functional aerodynamic upgrades, competition capable suspension and a cockpit that is focused on the driver.
Shelby Super Snake order book now open
Shelby have confirmed the specification of the 2021 Shelby Super Snake and exclusive Shelby Speedster based on a 2021 Ford Mustang, which can now be ordered through Shelby dealerships worldwide, and in South Africa. The Super Snake is a modern iteration of the version driven in the movie Gone in 60 Seconds and remains popular among muscle car enthusiasts looking for added racetrack capability and performance from their Mustang.
GWM P-Series is changing perceptions
The arrival of GWMs P-series brings a high quality, well refined and well equipped bakkie to the local market. The P-Series is available in commercial and passenger models, with the double cab being available in both models and the single cab only in the commercial version. In total there are 16 versions of the P-Series on offer in South Africa featuring 10 attractive specification lists.
Haval expands SUV offering with Jolion
Haval is launching the brand new Jolion, which will sell alongside their well established H2. At first glance, the futuristic yet expressive Phil Simmons design catches your eye. This look is further accentuated by the front and rear LED vision front and rear lights, which help to give the Jolion a sporty, yet elegant look.
Third-generation Haval H6 arrives in SA
Haval are in the midst of a wave of product introductions with the launch of the new H6, their second new model introduction in as many months. The second-generation H6 was not available in right-hand drive, so was never sold in South Africa, meaning that this third- generation model represents a quantum leap in all departments compared to what South Africans experienced before.
Honda adds Fit to local line-up
The new Honda Fit range, which replaces the Jazz nameplate in South Africa, heralds a new era for the Japanese company’s compact city car. Honda says that the Fit represents a new generation of cars for Honda Southern Africa, who are focusing on reasserting Honda’s position as a brand known for quality, durability and technology.
Honda’s NC750X updated
Honda have recently updated one of their most popular models, the NC750X, with more power, a higher redline and revised gearbox ratios, throttle by wire management, three riding modes and refined Honda Selectable Torque Control. The NC750X is also now 6kg lighter. A redesigned frame is wrapped in sharper bodywork, while the up-front storage compartment is usefully larger, at 23 litres and seat height 30mm lower.
Isuzu mu-X on its way to SA
Isuzu Motors South Africa has revealed that the new mu-X, their second-generation seven- seater SUV, will be launched in South Africa before the end of 2021. The new model is reported to offer class-leading driver assistance technology, new state-of-the-art powertrains and a luxurious interior.
Refreshed Jaguar F-Pace arrives in SA
The new Jaguar F-Pace that features a refreshed exterior, new interior including Pivi Pro infotainment system and new engine options is now available in South Africa. The F-Pace has been given a cleaner presence thanks to a sculpted bonnet that now features a wider power bulge and more defined surfaces, contributing to the striking finish by reducing the number of shut lines.
Jaguar F-Pace gets the SVR treatment
The new Jaguar F-Pace SVR is now faster, more dynamic and more refined than ever. The updates are delivered by a combination of new hardware and the move to Jaguar’s advanced Electronic Vehicle Architecture, dubbed EVA 2.0. It includes motorsport inspired design details, a luxurious and performance focused interior and the latest connected convenience technologies.
New Jaguar E-Pace goes on sale in SA
The significantly updated Jaguar E-Pace, which features an enhanced interior, fresh exterior, cutting edge Pivi Pro infotainment and a choice of powerful yet efficient engines, is now available in South Africa. At the centre of the refreshed interior is an 11.4-inch curved-glass high definition touchscreen, which is used to control the new Pivi Pro infotainment system. Two special coatings featuring anti-glare and fingerprint resistant technology add to its usability.
Special edition Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque headed to SA
The appeal of Land Rover’s popular compact SUVs, the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque have been broadened with a pair of unique special editions. The new Discovery Sport Urban Edition is based on the existing R-Dynamic specification and features distinctive design elements including shadow aluminium finishes, non-leather Luxtec suede seats and a black contrast roof. The Urban Edition is available in six exterior colourways and features Land Rover’s latest technology.
Range Rover Evoque Bronze Collection
The Bronze edition builds on the Evoque’s sophisticated design and luxurious interior and is based on the Evoque S specification. A distinctive Corinthian Bronze contrast roof, Burnished Copper side vents and exclusive new Satin Dark Grey 20-inch five spoke alloy wheels distinguish the exterior.
Range Rover Velar now offered with wider variety of engines
An updated Range Rover Velar, now featuring new infotainment technology, new design features and five powertrains, including an electric plug-in hybrid option, is now available in South Africa. Inside the reductive design is emphasised with integrated screens that are fitted with Land Rover’s Pivi and Pivi Pro infotainment system.
Land Rover Defender 90 ready for Africa
The launch of the reinvented Land Rover Defender last year was the beginning of a new range of the most capable and durable 4×4 by the British brand. Now the range is being extended locally with the launch of the short wheelbase Defender 90. At launch the model range includes the Defender S, X-Dynamic, First Edition and range topping Defender X models, each sold with four engine options.
Land Rover launch refreshed Discovery
Land Rover has announced the introduction of an updated Discovery that features a refreshed interior and exterior, as well as a host of cutting edge technology. A bold exterior evolution includes new signature LED headlights and a daytime running light signature set lower into the units.
Nissan welcomes Magnite to South Africa
The Nissan Magnite has arrived in South Africa and is the start of an extensive new product rollout for this Japanese brand. The much-awaited B-Sport Utility Vehicle comes with numerous first-in-class and best-in-segment features that will provide customers with a differentiated, innovative and accessible experience, including an eight-inch full flash touch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
New Nissan Navara goes on sale
The new, locally-produced Nissan Navara is now available at Nissan dealerships countrywide, featuring significant technical and cosmetic upgrades including developments in styling, technology, safety and overall performance, resulting in an improved driving experience, better ride quality and enhanced load carrying capacity.
2023 Nissan Z unveiled
Nissan’s all-new Z represents an approachable sports car for the modern age, with an unmatched 50-plus year heritage and global fan base. Subaru XV receives updated tech and styling
Subaru Southern Africa’s award-winning 2021 XV is now available in South Africa sporting refreshed looks and even more technology. Toyota Land Cruiser turns 70
This four wheel drive vehicle with a powerful engine was initially designed for military use but quickly gained a reputation for its go-anywhere ability. The ‘Land Cruiser’ name was coined as a result of the vehicle eventually being marketed to civilians in 1954 to compete with the Land Rover. In its 70-year history, the Land Cruiser family has grown to include pickup, wagon, station wagon and luxury SUV variants.
The Toyota Corolla Cross is on its way
Named after the ring of petals on the central part of a flower, the Corolla was Toyota’s first mainstream compact car. The 12th generation Corolla was launched in 2019 and introduced the Toyota Global Architecture (TNGA) platform and a bold new design. Specification and pricing of VW Golf 8 GTI announced
Ahead of its official launch on 1 September, Volkswagen South Africa have announced final details of the Golf 8 GTI. The Golf 8 is an evolution of the tried and tested Golf recipe. The grille has been reduced in size, but still houses the iconic red strip. Wider headlights and that red line now extend into the fenders, for a wider and lower look.
Upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan facelift details revealed
The Volkswagen Tiguan is getting a new look for 2021. It was the best-selling medium SUV in South Africa last year, with 4 280 units sold and a 16.2% of the A SUV segment. The Tiguan boasts a host of new interior features. A new steering wheel with touch controls is among the key interior highlights, while the air-conditioning functions have also been digitalised by means of touch sliders and buttons.
Volkswagen expands Crafter 35 model range
The popular Volkswagen Crafter range has been updated with the addition of the Crafter 35 Automatic and 4Motion derivatives. With a payload of three to five tonnes, the Crafter is the largest van produced by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
New Polo GTI makes global reveal
The GTI tops the Polo range in terms of power, technology and sportiness. The iconic design of the visually updated compact athlete is characterised by legendary GTI touches, such as a red strip in the radiator grille, honeycombe grille and premium sport seats with Clark pattern.
